Black Beer Bread (Guinness)
Ingredients
- 300g Wholemeal flour
- 75g White flour (the plain sort used for cakes)
- 40g Oat bran
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 20g Butter
- 240ml Milk
- 100ml molasses (I used Black Treacle)
- 150ml Black beer (I used Guinness)
- Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Preheat the oven to 180C

- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat

- Add the molasses until it dissolves, then turn off the heat

- Off the heat, add the milk and beer and mix well

- Add this mixture to the dry ingredients in the reserved bowl

- Mix well and transfer to a loaf tin greased with butter

- Bang the tin on the worktop to get rid of the air bubbles in the dough

-
Bake the bread on the middle shelf of the oven for approximately 55-60 minutes
-
Use a skewer or knife to test whether the bread is done; if the skewer still comes out with raw dough on it, return it to the oven for a further 5 minutes, repeating if necessary
